A piece of Sheffield's industrial heritage goes under the hammer on the 27th March with the sale of Princess Works - the birthplace of Stainless Steel. The former Brown-Firth Research Laboratories saw research by Harry Brearley in the early part of the last Century into Chromium Steel and later his successor Dr W H Hatfield was instrumental in developing new high quality stainless steels that are now the most popular throughout the whole world
More recently the the building has been used in the manufacture of pewter and is offered for sale due to relocation with the benefit of planning permission for new industrial units on the adjoining site
